From June 27 to 29, 2025, the "25th Gastroenterology Academic Conference of Jiangsu Medical Association" hosted by Jiangsu Medical Association and Gastroenterology Branch of Jiangsu Medical Association and co-organized by Xuzhou Medical Association and Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University was held in Xuzhou, Jiangsu and concluded successfully.
This year's conference, themed "Gathering Wisdom in Pengcheng, Leading the Way with the Stomach," brought together renowned experts and scholars from across China to discuss advances in the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases. The conference aims to promote the development of gastroenterology across the province and improve the diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases. Suzhou Chung-Hwa Chemical & Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Suzhou Chung-Hwa Chemical & Pharmaceutical") participated in the conference, showcasing its core product, Lipofil® calcium polycarbophil, in the digestive field.
Suzhou Chung-Hwa Chemical & Pharmaceuticals exhibited Lipofil® polycarbophil calcium, available in both tablet and granule dosage forms. The tablet form meets the needs of general patients, while the granules are designed for those with dysphagia, improving medication compliance and reducing medication risks. Simultaneously released on-site were tools such as the "Collection of Clinical Guidelines for Bowel Management" and the "Collection of Clinical Applications of Polycarbophil Calcium" to provide physicians with prescription and patient education support.
Based on clinical needs, we provide standardized solutions for constipation
At the conference, Professor Zou Duowu of Ruijin Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, emphasized the importance of addressing constipation in his presentation titled "Diagnosis, Treatment, and Reflections on Chronic Constipation." When constipation occurs, intervention should primarily be through lifestyle changes. If these responses are inadequate, medication may be necessary. Among medications for constipation, bulk-forming laxatives are recommended in the latest edition of the "Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Constipation" guidelines due to their safety and effectiveness. They are also listed as a foundational medication in the World Gastroenterology Practice Guidelines for the step-by-step treatment of constipation.
As a representative bulk-forming laxative, polycarbophil calcium is decalcified by gastric acid to form polycarbophil. Polycarbophil absorbs water and swells in the intestines, forming a hydrophilic gel. This increases the water content and volume of stool, making it fluffy and soft, easier to pass, and helping to establish regular bowel habits. Furthermore, polycarbophil is not absorbed into the bloodstream, making it highly safe.
In addition, Professor Zou further discussed the effects of calcium polycarbophil by explaining the clinical trials of calcium polycarbophil on patients with constipation - this drug can effectively improve the overall symptoms of patients with constipation, increase the frequency of bowel movements, and improve stool characteristics.
Calcium polycarbophil can not only be used alone, but also can be used in combination with other constipation drugs with different mechanisms to improve the quality of life of patients.
Bulk-forming laxatives have a wide range of applications, including for specific populations, such as those with constipation in the elderly, pregnant women, opioid-induced constipation, and constipation associated with diabetes. Clinical trials have shown that calcium polycarbophil, a representative bulk-forming laxative, is safe for use in diabetic patients with constipation, does not affect blood sugar control, and has no significant adverse reactions, making it an ideal treatment for constipation.
For constipation caused by opioids, calcium polycarbophil can not only relieve the patient's constipation symptoms, but also improve the patient's quality of life. It does not affect the analgesic effect of opioids and is safe and effective.
In addition, due to its safety and effectiveness, calcium polycarbophil has been recommended by many domestic and international guidelines for the treatment of various types of constipation and can also be used to maintain normal function in chemotherapy patients after surgery.
Finally, Professor Zou pointed out that chronic constipation requires graded treatment. The type of constipation should be confirmed through routine examinations and targeted examinations, and then targeted treatment should be carried out.
Deeply cultivating the digestive system field, accelerating the layout of innovative drugs
This conference is a key academic platform for gastroenterology in Jiangsu Province. By participating in such academic events, Suzhou Chung-Hwa Chemical & Pharmaceutical collaborates with clinical experts to explore disease solutions, embodying its core philosophy of "passion, innovation, care, and health." Going forward, the company will continue to invest in the research and development of therapeutics for digestive diseases and technological breakthroughs, providing scientific medical support for the "Healthy China" strategic goal.
