Cefonicid sodium is a second-generation, broad-spectrum, long-acting cephalosporin antibiotic that exerts its antibacterial activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis.

Primary Indications

Indicated for infections caused by the following susceptible organisms: lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, septicaemia, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections. May also be used for surgical prophylaxis. A single 1g dose of cefuroxime administered prior to surgery may reduce the incidence of postoperative infections resulting from contamination or potential contamination during the procedure. The use of cefazolin during caesarean section (administered after cord clamping) may reduce the incidence of certain postoperative infections.

The Main Contraindication To Medication

Contraindicated in patients with a known allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics.
