The 24th Digestive Diseases Academic Conference

On September 21, 2024, the 24th Academic Feast of Digestive Diseases of the Chinese Medical Association is still in full swing. It exerts its pharmacological effects based on its high water absorption and accompanying swelling in the small and large intestines: in the state of constipation, calcium polycarbophil absorbs water and swells into gel in the digestive tract, softening the contents of the digestive tract by the gel, shortening the passage time of the contents of the digestive tract, and improving constipation symptoms; in the state of diarrhea, calcium polycarbophil absorbs water and gels, delaying the passage time of the contents of the digestive tract, thereby improving diarrhea symptoms. Related studies have shown that calcium polycarbophil is beneficial for patients with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation or alternating diarrhea and constipation, and is especially useful for patients with abdominal distension as the main complaint.
