Pentoxifylline is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor primarily used for the treatment of peripheral vascular diseases, such as intermittent claudication caused by chronic peripheral arterial occlusive disease. It may also be used to improve cerebral circulation following ischemic cerebrovascular disorders. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that pentoxifylline can improve hemorheology, reduce blood viscosity, lower plasma fibrinogen levels, enhance erythrocyte deformability, inhibit neutrophil activity, and alleviate vascular inflammatory responses. It also increases cerebral blood flow and may help enhance memory functions.
Primary Indications
Peripheral vascular diseases, including intermittent claudication and rest pain.
